Canadian and American Scientists Oppose Tar Sand Oil

The tar sand mining has huge environmental costs. Team of 100 scientists from United States and Canada will decide the fate of fuel extraction technique. Many activists accused that the technique is contradictory to all climate change fighting efforts. The traditional crude oil based fuels like petrol and diesel cause very low emissions as compared to tar sands crude. The open letter published by scientists further added that the last option for fuels should be tar sand. Recently G7 countries decided to get rid of carbon fuels by this century.
The Canada is known to at the forefront of the tar sands fuel race and this move has exerted pressure on the country. If country continues to extract tar sand fuel, it will never achieve lower emissions. University of Water professor Thomas Homer-Dixon said that if Canada is serious about fighting climate change, it should not develop more tar sand oil fields. Looks like Canada is not listening. Thomas teaches governance innovation at the university.
The research team includes five recipients of Canada’s highest civilian honor along with one Nobel laureate. 34 members have received many awards from scientific establishments in both countries. The government was looking for some scientific basis to take action on the tar sands. For the first time all professionals are uniting against the polluted technology. The public letters disclosed 10 reasons for not using the tar sands. The technology has destroyed forests. The scientists said that tar sands should continue only if it doesn’t affect biodiversity, human health and any other environmental treaties.
