Thanks to TV series ‘’Vikings’’ and many cartoons you may believe that you already know everything about Vikings.These people raided British coastal cities in the 10th and 11th century. This is just one fact about them. Luckily for us, there many more.

  • From movies and TV series, we saw that Vikings weren’t very clean people. Actually, they were some of the cleanest people at that time.
  • They had only two meals per day. A day meal and a night meal. This was good for those who wanted to lose weight.
  • Once again, thanks to the TV, we believed that Vikings wore horned helmets. In reality, they didn’t.
  • The most important thing for every Viking was his sword. They were passed on generations and usually were named.
  • The Vikings had big meetings. Nothing interesting, except the name of those meetings. They were called ‘’The Thing’’.
  • The two most violent Vikings were Red and Erik. Other Vikings exiled them from Iceland and Norway.
  • The Vikings were involved in the slave trade. Many of them got rich in human trafficking.
  • Despite the common belief that Vikings spent the most of their time in the war, they were farmers.
  • Some Vikings used a strong soap in order to bleach their hair.
  • Vikings’ children were considered as adults at the age 12.
  • Vikings wanted to die in battle because they will go in Valhalla, a heaven for fallen warriors.
  • Chieftains and Jarls were rich Vikings. They enjoyed in imported vine, they rode horses and ate from metal plates. Their wives were described as beautiful and smart.
  • Their ships could travel 200 km per day.
